Responsibilities

Octave is seeking a talented IT Principal Engineer to join our team as a key contributor in managing and optimizing cutting-edge IT infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone passionate about advanced technologies and eager to take on complex challenges that will shape the future of our operations.

  • FORTRA File-Catalyst Administration: Administer and manage a FORTRA File-Catalyst setup configured on Azure. This system is a highly visible and heavily utilized component of our IT infrastructure.
  • Administer and support systems running LINUX Ubuntu 16+ version with Apache Tomcat that serves a publicly visible website. This involves scheduling system updates with planned downtime, configuring Apache hot-fixes, testing firewall and the hosted websites.
  • Hyper-V Cluster Management: Oversee a Hyper-V cluster, including the configuration of virtual machines, storage, and user access.
  • PowerShell Automation: Develop and implement PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks and troubleshoot configuration issues involving networks, Hyper-V, and REST API endpoints.
  • Web Content Management: Assist in managing website content using Visual Studio Code or PowerShell.
  • IIS Administration: Manage and configure Internet Information Server (IIS), including web applications, virtual sites, application pools, and user access controls.
  • SQL Server Management: Administer SQL Servers supported by IT teams, including database setup, backup configuration, performance monitoring, SQL scripting, and secure client communication.
  • Issue Resolution: Proactively analyze data, diagnose root causes, and implement effective solutions to address complex technical issues.
  • Team Enablement: Provide training and technical support to team members, ensuring proficiency in modern tools and methodologies.

Education / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in Azure Administration, SQL Server Administration, or equivalent certifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience IT infrastructure management, with expertise in cloud environments, database systems and automation desired.
  • Extensive experience in administering and configuring FORTRA File-Catalyst and Web Workflow systems on Azure.
  • Experienced with administering and maintaining LINUX Ubuntu 20.04 machines.
  • Proficiency in developing and writing SQL scripts for database management, including backup and recovery strategies.
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting capabilities using native Cmdlets and modules from systems such as Hyper-V, vCenter, and Azure.
  • Experience working in VMware or vCenter virtualization environments.
  • Solid understanding of VLANs and other networking protocols.
  • Familiarity with system monitoring tools such as Spotlight and/or PRTG, including API integration knowledge.
  • Preference will be given to candidates located in the North Alabama area.
