Systems Support Engineer (Onsite)

At Octave, we're looking for a proactive and technically curious Systems Support Engineer to join our team supporting a critical operational environment in Wellington.
This is a hands-on role where you'll work directly with users, troubleshoot a wide variety of technical issues, and become a trusted onsite technical expert supporting our Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) platform and associated systems.

Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide onsite support for mission-critical applications and systems.
- Troubleshoot software, hardware, database, network, and infrastructure issues.
- Support Windows environments, system administration activities, and application operations.
- Analyse application logs, system behaviour, and data to identify and resolve issues.
- Implement system updates, configuration changes, and operational improvements.
- Build strong relationships with end users and customer stakeholders.
- Help maintain system reliability in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Participate in an on-call roster and occasional travel between customer locations.
About You
You may come from a background in:
- Systems Administration
- Application Support
- Technical Support Engineering
- Systems Support
- Infrastructure Support
- Desktop Support (Level 2/3)
We'll be particularly interested if you have:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting business-critical applications or systems.
- Windows administration experience, including Active Directory, DNS, and Microsoft technologies.
- Exposure to SQL, scripting, databases, automation, or application support environments.
- The confidence to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- A genuine passion for technology and continuous learning.
Education / Qualifications
- Tertiary level qualification in Business, Computer Science, IT or other related disciplines
- Hands-on experience navigating Windows Server environments and standard desktop operating systems
- Understanding of networking, authentication, virtualisation, and security fundamentals.
- Experience with logging, monitoring, backup, and observability tools.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call roster, involving some after-hours duties.
- You will be required to travel from time to time.
